Congratulations to Emily and Jolene for successfully completing pupillage. They have both accepted offers of tenancy and we extend our...
Overview
Emily joined Chambers as a pupil in 2023 and successfully completed her pupillage under the supervision of Chris Taft and Elizabeth Murray.
Emily has a very busy court practice and is frequently instructed to provide advice on liability and quantum, in addition to drafting pleadings.
Her practice includes road traffic accidents, employers and public liability, highways act claims and credit hire. Emily was recently successful in securing the dismissal of a £13,000 claim for credit hire on the basis of failure to prove need, and in securing a finding of fundamental dishonesty in a low-velocity impact personal injury claim.
Her court diary covers a broad spectrum of cases from interim applications through to full trial, and she is happy to accept instructions on behalf of claimants and defendants.
Prior to the Bar Emily worked as a paralegal in a leading law firm where she managed a large caseload of Fast Track claims. Accordingly she understands the difficulties that can be faced on a daily basis by her instructing solicitors, and welcomes instructions at an early stage so that the best advice can be given.
Emily has also previously volunteered with the Greater Manchester Law Centre to assist vulnerable clients with their appeals, having developed a warm and supportive manner with lay clients.
During her undergraduate studies Emily received her university’s award for Academic Excellence for being one of the highest achieving students on her LLB course.
Personal Injury
Emily acts for both claimants in defendants within her busy court practice, which spans multi track, intermediate track, fast track claims. Emily frequently appears in all manner of hearings from allocation and case management hearings to interim applications and trials. Emily is regularly instructed from an early stage in proceedings to advise on liability and quantum, and to draft pleadings.
Emily regularly acts in claims where issues of LVI and fundamental dishonesty have been raised.
Inquests and Public Inquiries
Prior to her undergraduate studies Emily was a member of the jury in a two week inquest involving restraint by police and Article 2 ECHR. This sparked her interest in the Bar and this area of practice. During pupillage she attended multiple inquests and she seeks to develop this area of her practice as a tenant.
