Overview
Elizabeth is now in the second six of her pupillage and accepts instructions under the supervision of Rachael Levene and Katie Nowell across chambers’ employment practice.
Elizabeth commenced pupillage in the Employment Team. During her first six, she shadowed experienced counsel across a broad range of employment matters, from preliminary hearings through to final hearings, remedy hearings and judicial mediation. She also had the opportunity to observe proceedings in both the High Court and the Employment Appeal Tribunal. More recently, Elizabeth has gained exposure to the County Court and Magistrates’ Court, with a view to accepting a range of instructions in her second six.
Throughout her first six, Elizabeth was involved in a variety of research and drafting work. She developed her written skills through drafting submissions, advice on liability, lists of issues, chronologies, grounds of resistance and grounds of appeal. Alongside this, she developed a practical understanding of advocacy and procedure across courts and tribunals, and gained valuable insight into case preparation and strategy, different styles of advocacy and building rapport with clients.
Elizabeth looks forward to putting the learning from her first six into practice as she commences her second six.
Prior to commencing pupillage, Elizabeth completed an internship in the chambers of a US federal judge. During her law degree at the University of Liverpool, she volunteered in the Liverpool Law Clinic on the SEND project, supporting in-house solicitors in providing legal advice to parents of children with SEND. This work involved drafting documents in preparation for appeals to the SEND tribunal and applications for judicial review.
