Keira Shaw has successfully concluded proceedings on behalf of the Crown against three co-defendants charged in connection with a serious incident of violence at a barber’s shop in Preston city centre.
The Crown’s case, as advanced by Keira Shaw, was that the three defendants, who are brothers, acted together to inflict unlawful violence which resulted in one of the victims being stabbed, suffering a collapsed lung, and the other victim suffering a serious head wound. The offending took place in July 2025 and stemmed from an argument between one of the victims and one of the defendants that had taken place inside the barber’s shop. Drawing on the clear command of the evidential picture that a case of this kind demands, Keira Shaw put the Crown’s case on the basis that, following this argument, all three defendants launched an attack on the two victims during which serious violence was used and serious injuries were sustained.
The matter began with all three defendants jointly charged by the Crown with two offences of wounding with intent. On the day of trial, each defendant pleaded guilty to an offence of Affray. The case involved measured presentation and consideration of identification, DNA and ANPR evidence by Keira Shaw.
The defendants were sentenced on 16 April 2026. Two of the defendants were sentenced to 24 months and 20 months imprisonment respectively; the third was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.
This case is characteristic of the serious Crown Court work for which Keira Shaw, a Level 2 prosecutor, is regularly instructed. Her broader practice spans both prosecution and defence across offences of violence, domestic abuse, drugs, dishonesty and driving matters, and she accepts instructions in all areas of criminal law.
