Overview

Emily Freeman is a Crime Pupil under the supervision of Philip Barnes.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Emily worked as a paralegal for a housing charity where she managed her own caseload of clients, conducted legal research, and assisted solicitors with case preparation. She has also worked for Citizens Advice, where she advised clients on welfare rights, housing and debt. In this role, she drafted submissions to local authorities, prepared appeals, and frequently negotiated with landlords to prevent evictions. Emily often advised clients who were not eligible for legal aid, ensuring they were still able to access advice and representation.

Alongside her employment, Emily has demonstrated a strong commitment to access to justice, volunteering extensively with organisations such as Vauxhall Community Law and Information Centre and the Child Poverty Action Group’s judicial review project. Emily also mentors current university students who are pursuing a career in law.
